Actively looking for opportunities to help share stories that amplify voices of those not often heard.
Hello, and welcome! If we haven’t yet met, my name’s Alayna and I am a creative multimedia storyteller who writes, directs, produces, edits, hosts, tells jokes and plays with makeup.
I have worked in Film and Television for more than 15 years, beginning back in high school when I would occasionally skip class to volunteer at my local community TV station. Since then, I have had a flourishing career working for Canada’s top stations and networks.
I consider myself a Jack (or Jill) of all trades, and master of some. Throughout my career, I have juggled my passions for both the technical and editorial aspects of the industry, working in both factual and fictional realms.
As a journalist, I have respectively written and produced for CTV News Channel and CBC Kids News. As a writer, I was selected to participate in BIPOC TV & Film’s Episodic TV Writer’s Lab where I was mentored by some of Canada’s best writers and showrunners.
On the Technical side, I have Assistant Directed on a multitude of National Newscasts and Sporting Events, including three Olympics (Rio, Pyeongchang and Beijing). I also became CBC Toronto’s first Black, Female Switcher/Director, where I helped launch new shows and directed a number of live, nationally broadcasted specials.
I have been actively looking for opportunities to blend my multitude of passions and help share stories that amplify voices of those not often heard in traditional media outlets. I currently facilitate writing workshops in schools situated in underfunded neighbourhoods across Toronto. I have also taken on mentoring emerging BIPOC writers and journalists in my spare time.
As I have come to the conclusion I will never be satisfied doing one thing in life, I decided to create this portfolio to showcase all the things I love to do.
While you’re here, feel free to take a look around. I’m always happy to connect with new people, share resources and collaborate on new projects.
