Story Producer

Researcher  •   Interviewer    •    Story Editor

Whether I’m editing scripts, short stories, articles or essays, I want to respect the voice of the author.

I have worked as a producer and story editor in a number of capacities.

Whether it’s researching a variety of topics and chasing guests for five weekly live call-in shows… or pitching and creating content that helps youth safely understand complicated headlines… or simply interviewing fascinating people and sharing their experience and perspectives with a wider audience, everything boils down to producing a story.

CBC Kids News Explainer: News can be traumatizing. Here’s how to cope

Summary:
Following the 2022 Club Q shooting in Colorado, CBC Kids News commissioned me to reach out to 2SLGBTQ+ support groups to better understand how youth from the community were impacted hearing news of the incident.

Speaking with a number of counselors and youth advocates, my research found there was an overwhelming sense of hopelessness amongst many adolescents and teenagers. Many mentioned traumatic news stories, like the Club Q shooting, seemed to be becoming more frequent over the past few years.

With this in mind, I researched, pitched and co-produced this piece for CBC Kids News to help kids understand how they can still stay informed with what’s happening in the world, while also protecting their peace of mind.

Blue Door - Forward House

Summary:
Working with the incredibly talented team at SenovvA Canada, I was commissioned to interview, story edit, and script a video highlighting why programs like Forward House — a transitional housing program for senior men — are severely needed in today’s economic climate.

I was not prepared for the conversation I had with Paul. It was a humbling and eye opening experience that I won’t soon forget. The career he’s had in the creative industry is one that I can only hope to one day emulate. Through a series of ill-fated events, that could happen to anyone, Paul has had to rebuild his career in an industry that is often diluted with ageist beliefs.
In spite of everything Paul has endured, what struck me the most was the optimism and determination felt within his presence.

Unionville Home Society - Our Spirit Never Ages

Summary:
Every year, the team at SenovvA Canada donates their time and resources to produce a short film for Unionville Home Society’s fundraising dinner. The films highlight the extraordinary efforts and initiatives the staff takes to best care for their senior residents.

To tie into the dinner’s theme “Our Spirit Never Ages,” we were asked to create a video from the perspective of the residents and their families; to better understand what makes UHS so special.

Sitting down with Kelly and Mitra, it became evident how much life and lived experience resides within the walls of UHS. It was an honour and a privilege to share a small piece of their respective stories.
